TÊTE-À-TÊTE 2015 concludes: concert at the Riga Russian Theatre and London Sinfonietta performance

A special concert at the Riga Russian Theatre on 29 October and a concert given by the London Sinfonietta in the Small Hall of the Dzintaru Concert Hall will conclude Boris and Ināra Teterev’s arts programme TÊTE-À-TÊTE 2015.

On 29 October, the Riga Russian Theatre will host a special concert, produced especially for the TÊTE-À-TÊTE 2015 arts programme, comprised of fragments from five shows that have been produced with the support of the Foundation including “Twelfth Night”, “Tango with Strok”, “The Bridegrooms” and “Hanuma”, and, last but not least, “The Canterville Ghost” (dramatized by Aleksey Scherbak and inspired by the motifs of Oscar Wilde’s novel), the new musical dedicated to Raimonds Pauls’ anniversary. The Maestro himself will take his seat at the piano. Audiences will get their first chance to savour this new show on 30 January 2016.

“The concert has been specially produced for the TÊTE-À-TÊTE 2015 arts programme, in honour of the collaboration between the Foundation and the Theatre. This concert will take place only once and has been conceived as a theatrical performance with unusual afterpieces as its unifying elements. These shows, whose musical fragments will resound on this evening, have already won audiences’ hearts. The major revelation of the evening will, of course, be the first performance of music from the forthcoming adaptation of “The Canterville Ghost”,” explains the concert’s scriptwriter, actor Dmitry Paless.

At 19:00 on 30 October, the Small Hall of the Dzintaru Concert Hall will host a one-off concert in Latvia performed by the legendary London Sinfonietta orchestra. The concert will feature a surprising blend of musical genres and means of expression — Radiohead motifs in the music of Steve Reich, Terry Riley’s incrustation in an opus of the world famous composer of film scores Michael Nyman and the works of two British contemporary music stars Tansy Davies and Edmund Finnis. London Sinfonietta’s core is comprised of 18 principal players representing some of the best solo and ensemble musicians in the world. In this concert, the orchestra will be conducted by Andrew Gourlay and accompanied by electric guitar virtuoso Mats Bergström. A live transmission of the concert will also broadcast for listeners’ enjoyment on the Latvian Radio programme Klasika.

“Making new music” is the motto of the London Sinfonietta. According to the critics, “As far as instrumental music is concerned, they take on the riskiest challenges and handle them with aplomb.” The London Sinfonietta orchestra was founded in 1968 with the aim of performing contemporary music. The orchestra was one of contemporary music’s early champions and has earned its fame by performing the works of Xenakis, Ligeti, Berio, Reich, Messiaen, Adams and Part among others. The orchestra has maintained this avant-garde mission right through to the present day.
